Rómulo Mucho Mamani assumes the role of the new Minister of Energy and Mines of Peru

He is a mining engineer with extensive managerial experience in both the public and private sectors. He previously served as the Deputy Minister of Mines at the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) and as president of Ingemmet.

The Peruvian government has appointed mining engineer Rómulo Mucho Mamani as the new Minister of Energy and Mines, replacing Oscar Vera Gargurevich. Mamani graduated in Mining Engineering from the National University of the Altiplano (Puno) and holds specializations in mining investment projects, executive and managerial training, as well as studies in Peru, Japan, and Canada, having received prestigious scholarships from JICA and Atlas Copco.

His resume includes experience as the Deputy Minister of Mines at the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) from April to July 2006. In the private sector, he served as the president of the Board of Directors of the Institute of Mining Engineers of Peru (IIMP), where he was recently a director.

Recently, he was honored with the 2024 Business Leaders of Change (LEC) award in the Large Enterprise category, recognizing his work in promoting modern mining practices. He also holds the Order of the Peruvian Engineering award, the highest recognition granted by the Peruvian Engineers Congress.
