The joint venture between Ivanhoe Electric and Saudi Arabian Mining Company Ma'aden, achieved significant milestones during the first quarter of exploration activities in Saudi Arabia. Their dedicated team completed the initial Typhoon™ survey at Umm Ash Shalahib, successfully identifying the first drill targets, which are slated for drilling operations to commence by the end of May.
The initial phase of the Typhoon™ Survey, covering a 76 km2 area surrounding Ma'aden's Al Amar Gold-Copper-Zinc Mine on the Umm Ash Shalahib Exploration License, has concluded. Computational Geosciences swiftly analyzed the initial Typhoon™ data, identifying two promising areas for further exploration through drilling.
Additionally, the construction and delivery of the first new-generation Typhoon™ unit, out of three ordered by the joint venture, has been successfully completed. The next stage involves mapping and sampling additional lands within the Al Amar and Wadi Bidah Belts to continue the ongoing exploration efforts.
The partnership showcased the disruptive capabilities of Typhoon™ in tandem with the machine learning-based inversion software developed by Ivanhoe Electric's subsidiary, Computational Geosciences. This innovative approach enabled the rapid identification of subsurface geophysical anomalies in a challenging geological setting.
Notably, in areas with large portions of resistive rock exposed at the surface, certain sections of the survey necessitated transmission voltages exceeding 5,000 volts. However, Typhoon™ proved capable of achieving these high voltages while maintaining exceptional signal quality.
Looking ahead, the joint venture is eager to continue exploration activities across the Al Amar and Wadi Bidah belts, leveraging the deployment of a new generation of Typhoon™ units into the field.
