Additionally, it has committed to collaborating with its suppliers to reduce scope 3 emissions by 10% by 2030.

Antofagasta Minerals announced new greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets after achieving its goals four years ahead of schedule. As part of its decarbonization and climate change strategy, the company pledged to cut its scope 1 and 2 emissions by 50% by 2035 compared to 2020, considering the expected increase in copper production during that period.

Furthermore, the group will work with its goods and services suppliers to reduce projected scope 3 emissions by 10% by 2030. It reaffirmed its goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. "We set these new targets after detailed work to better understand our emissions footprint and incorporate technologies supporting decarbonization. Our aim is to achieve net-zero copper production emissions," said Executive President Iván Arriagada.

"Regarding scope 1 emissions, as diesel consumption accounts for approximately 90% of this category, we are focused on identifying alternative fuel sources and assessing the potential for electrifying our extraction truck fleet. Initially, we will evaluate options such as trolley technology and then complement it with battery use as technology development allows and becomes more available and economical. At the same time, we are implementing various innovations, such as partially automating some fleets in our mines, which will also contribute to the electrification and decarbonization pathway," stated Iván Arriagada.

Regarding scope 3 emissions, it has been identified that the Mining Group's goods and services suppliers account for over 50% of them. Therefore, efforts will continue to reduce them through the "Suppliers for a Better Future" program launched in December 2022.

"We understand the importance of producing copper responsibly and safely, in line with our purpose of developing mining for a better future, so these new targets establish a clear path that we will follow in the coming years," the executive noted.
