Some sustainable initiatives of the company include the incorporation of electromobility, contributing to the reduction of scope 3 emissions in mining, and a circular economy model.

The most recent edition of the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook, an annual report that evaluates the sustainability policies and progress of over 9,000 companies worldwide across more than 60 industries, highlighted CAP as the third most sustainable steelmaker in the world due to its actions to reduce its water and carbon footprint and to contribute to the challenge of mitigating and adapting to climate change.

Additionally, CAP is the best-positioned group in Latin America in the iron and steel mining category.

The company, present throughout the value chain of iron mining, steel production, port operation, steel solutions, and seawater desalination, also stands out for being included for the third consecutive year in the 2024 Sustainability Yearbook.

"This recognition for the third consecutive year fills us with pride, indicates that we are heading in the right direction, and confirms that each of the companies in the Group has made significant progress in implementing our sustainable growth strategy," said Jorge Lagos, Manager of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability of Grupo CAP. S&P's distinction adds to the recent recognition of Grupo CAP as the third most sustainable company in the world in the Steel sector in the global Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI).

Highlighted sustainability initiatives:

As part of its sustainable development strategy, CAP has set goals to reduce its water and carbon footprint and to contribute to the challenge of mitigating and adapting to climate change and align with the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

One of its operating companies, Compañía Minera del Pacífico (CMP), became the first private mining company in the country to convert its bus fleet to 100% electric, reinforcing its commitment to emissions reduction in this productive sector.

Cintac, another company in the group, has opted for industrialized solutions and sustainable materials to address the housing deficit, which in Chile alone exceeds 700,000 homes.

Additionally, Siderúrgica Huachipato uses 100% renewable electrical energy in its processes and aims to contribute to the decarbonization of Chile through specially designed steels, especially as a supplier to the mining sector.

Along with this, Grupo CAP maintains its commitment to recycle and reduce its water consumption, using desalinated seawater at the Aguas CAP plant in Caldera, supplying this element to all CMP operations in the Copiapó Valley and other companies in the area.
