Luis Lucero, Argentina's New Mining Secretary
Lucero obtained his law degree from the University of Buenos Aires and has excelled in government policy and corporate strategy in mining at the University of Dundee.

After a month and a half without someone in the position due to Flavia Royón's resignation on February 10, the Ministry of Economy appointed Luis E. Lucero as the new Secretary of Mining of the Nation.

Lucero is a lawyer specialized in the mining industry, natural resources law, and with extensive experience in project financing, corporate matters, and complex arbitration and litigation. According to the Ministry of Economy, Dr. Lucero received his law degree from the University of Buenos Aires; he completed a Postgraduate Degree in Business Law at the Argentine University of the Enterprise, and subsequently attended various courses and seminars, notably focusing on government policy and corporate strategy in mining at the University of Dundee; negotiation at Harvard Law School; fundamentals of organizational sciences at both Columbia Business School and the University of Cambridge. Lucero also earned a Master of Arts degree with honors from University College London (UCL).

A former partner at Marval O'Farrell Mairal law firm, he has previously served as a foreign law consultant at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman in the United States and has held positions on the boards and audit committees of various mining, gas distribution, industrial, and financial companies.

The future Secretary of Mining has spoken at various national and international institutions on topics related to the mining industry and project financing, including the Center for Energy, Petroleum, Mineral Law and Policy at the University of Dundee, where he was appointed Honorary Lecturer from October 2010 to September 2013; the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation; and the United States Geological Survey. He has been recognized as a distinguished professional in his field of practice by numerous local and international publications.
