From the Arequipa district of Characato, Peru, the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM), through Deputy Minister of Electricity Jaime Luyo Kuong, inaugurated the "expansion of distribution networks in 15 human settlements within SEAL's concession," benefiting over 2,500 families.
Luyo Kuong emphasized the importance of providing continuous and quality electricity service to more residents in the Arequipa region, highlighting the "government's commitment to improving the quality of life of the population by providing access to essential basic services."
The project provides electricity to families in the districts of Cerro Colorado, Characato, Mariano Melgar, Paucarpata, and Sachaca in the province of Arequipa; Chala in the province of Caraveli; and Majes in the province of Caylloma in the aforementioned southern region.
"This important and necessary electrification project reflects the coordinated work between the Executive, municipal authorities, and the company in favor of the population with the aim of closing the gaps in access to an essential service such as electricity, which improves living conditions and provides opportunities for development," emphasized Luyo Kuong.
The deputy minister added that this project demonstrates the authorities' concern for providing energy to peripheral areas, such as human settlements, to offer them the same opportunities as urban central areas.
"This project has also addressed the issue of public lighting, using LED technology and providing greater security for the population on the streets," he emphasized.
In this regard, SEAL representatives specified that the project includes improvements to both primary and secondary electricity networks, as well as individual meters for each family. This will enable a more efficient and reliable distribution of energy in low-income areas, generating a positive and lasting impact on their economic and social development.
